Mark your calendars for the production of the antique Greek Tragedy Elektra at the Getty Villa – Thursdays–Saturdays, September 9–October 2, 2010 at 8:00 p.m.
(Quoting Getty newsletter in the following) One of the poet Sophocles’ most elegant and haunting works, Elektra celebrates the human desire for justice, and the costs exacted upon those who seek it. The story follows the unrelenting Elektra after the murder of her father, King Agamemnon, by his vengeful wife.
The play features Broadway star Annie Purcell in the title role, Academy Award-winning actress Olympia Dukakis in the role of the Chorus, acclaimed television actress Pamela Reed as Clytemnestra, and Tony Award nominee Manoel Felciano as Orestes.
The world premiere of this newly commissioned translation by celebrated playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker is directed by Los Angeles native Carey Perloff, artistic director of San Francisco’s American Conservatory Theater.
