Deutsche Fußball Liga

21st Century Fox has just announced a five year deal with the Deutsche Fußball League (DFL) to bring the German Bundesliga games to dozens of countries, including the United States, starting with the 2015-2016 season. With the deal, millions of U.S. soccer fans will gain access to the 306 Bundesliga matches, the Relegation Playoffs, and the DFL Supercup in their living rooms.

James Murdoch, Deputy COO of 21st Century Fox, said in a statement that “the Bundesliga has grown to become one of the preeminent soccer leagues in the world. We look forward to partnering with the DFL over the next five years to leverage our unrivaled global portfolio of sports channels to bolster the Bundesliga brand in every corner of the globe.”

Foreign soccer games haven’t had the best reputation for being available in the US market, and when they have, they didn’t always last long or were on channels most people couldn’t gain access to. With a five year agreement, Bundesliga fans can rejoice that they will be able to enjoy the games for years at home in the States. Viewers can expect to see the games spread out on Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Fox Soccer Plus, Fox Soccer 2 Go, and possibly on Fox’s non-cable channel. Part of the deal also includes digital distribution rights for Fox, including mobile devices.
