Science Fiction Novel – Die Insel der Weissen Affen by Dieter Kermas
How about a spooky science fiction novel for Christmas? Some of us can’t get enough of this kind of stories no matter what the occasion. We just love the suspense of the real or unreal dangers that could possibly expose our planet earth or mankind at large.
So, there you go. Here is the take of Dieter Kermas, long time author for CaliforniaGermans, who has delighted us with his stories and poems over the years and has shared his childhood war memories with us in a series we started posting in 2013. In his new novel, he is taking us on a journey into the unknown future of mankind. Find out for yourself where humankind will end up in his newly published book: “Die Insel der weissen Affen” available on amazon.de
We Asked Him, What Inspired Him to try himself on a science fiction story, after he had just published his historical fiction in 2016 about a WWII romance happening between the enemy lines of Germany and Russia, “Kolja: “Liebe Im Feindesland”.
Dieter Kermas: My ending up writing a science fiction novel was more or less accidental I have to admit. I initially had planned for an adventure novel, that would play out on a South Sea island, but the storytelling suddenly played a trick on me. It seems it almost ‘came alive’ and pulled me into a completely different direction. It took unexpected and unplanned turns and suddenly I was writing a science fiction novel.
CaliforniaGermans: Did you read science fiction as a child?
Dieter Kermas: No, in fact, I only read a few like “Perry Rhodan” but I really preferred “Jerry Cotton” and “Karl May”
CG: The novel shows quite some in-depth details in regards to boating, shipping, and trade at sea. Were you familiar with nautical terms?
DK: I actually have no previous experience and had to do a lot of research on this specific topic and the specific nautical terms as well as the intricacy connected with seafaring in general. It was an experiential adventure for me in that way too.
CG: What’s your next story going to be?
DK: Well, for sure not another science fiction novel. I want to try other genres. Perhaps a criminal story is in my future… But before that, I would like to publish an anthology of all my stories and poems, some of which CaliforniaGermans readers have come to enjoy over the last few years.
Following is a brief Summary of his Science Fiction novel:
Die Insel der Weißen Affen – (Author: Dieter Kermas)
It all starts out with the ship crew of Anja, a freight transporter that is on course to Brisbane after unloading in Valparaiso.
Their trip turns out to be life changing in many ways. Unexpected events make their ship Anja veer off course and they find themselves in unknown waters all of a sudden. In desperate search of land, they finally discover an island. Expecting to be saved from danger and anticipating help they encounter the adventure of a lifetime. Instead of humans, they find white monkeys inhabiting the island. But that’s not all. On their search for help they come across an extraterrestrial space rocket and they find human remains of people that must have been used as test objects.
After all that discovery the ship crew just wants to get out of this hell and they manage to board their ship. Arriving back in Rostock they find out that they brought a deadly virus with them. A pandemic is taking over the world. But that’s not all. Further danger is putting earth and mankind at risk. UFOs are approaching and start a deliberate destruction of planet earth. Will the intruders excel in their vicious plan to take over the ‘blue planet’ or will humanity manage to conquer the epidemic and fight back the extraterrestrial intruders?
Mankind finds itself in a doomed situation…
