The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908. Her campaign to make Mother’s Day a recognized holiday in the US succeeded in 1914 making this year’s Mother’s Day the 100th official observance of this beloved holiday!

Traditionally this day falls onto the second Sunday in May. Other countries imported the US version of Mother’s Day, but not necessarily its date. In Mexico, Mother’s Day is celebrated as an unofficial holiday always on May 10th, the day of its first observance in 1922.  Germany celebrated its first Mother’s Day (Muttertag) on May 13th, 1923.

Happy Mother’s Day! Alles Gute zum Muttertag!
