MY STORY OF LIFE AS AN EXPAT IN A NUTSHELL
Now that the cat is out of the bag, I would like to offer you a deeper look into why I left the United States and reveal where I first ended up before moving back to Germany. But instead of writing you a novel, I would like to switch things up this time and present my story in a nutshell to you in the form of audio.
A few months ago, while I was already living in Europe but not in Germany yet, one of my dear friends, who has visited me twice while living in the States, asked me if I would like to be a guest on his podcast and talk about my experience as an expat. I loved the idea and agreed to record an episode together with him.
While I usually don’t like being in the spotlight, I really enjoyed sitting behind the microphone with my friend in his kitchen studio in Dusseldorf to reminisce about my journey as an immigrant. Sitting with our backs to Las Vegas wallpaper (my friend is a HUGE Las Vegas fan), we chatted away for about an hour and covered my American story from the beginning till the end.
We covered my time as an au pair in Walnut Creek, followed by my time as a student in Huntington Beach, then moving on to leaving the states, and closing with where I can see myself moving to in the future. It felt so good to talk about everything, as it was kind of therapeutic. I reaffirmed to myself that I had made the right decision by moving back to Europe and leaving my American Dream behind.
What I didn’t know at the time of the recording was that I still had another life change ahead of myself. But more on that next time. As of now, if you would like to catch a glimpse into our conversation or listen to the whole episode, I will go ahead and provide you the link to it.
The episode is only available in German, but I still hope you are going to like it. It is a fun and casual talk with lots of laughter, which shines light on both the good and the bad experiences I made living in California.
But now, without further ado, have fun and enjoy my episode California Gurl(s) with Absolut Ginlos here.
